Taking a little day trip to Virginia Beach, from Connecticut today, and spotted a VW Vanagon Westfalia SYNCRO, on the Jersey turnpike. Not exactly sure what the production numbers on these things are, but they’re cool, and pretty rare from what I understand. Driver got a big thumbs up from me.

I don’t know the production numbers on them either, but the combo (syncro+full camper) was really expensive back then, so not that many were sold.

My ‘87 Wolfsburg was $20K in the showroom. I’d be willing to bet that the syncro campers added $10K on top of that.

They are really expensive now. Add a well sorted TDi or a Subaru engine swap, and these things go for mid-high 30s today.

There are a few “16 inch” clones out there, I know of one near me that was built with parts. 2,138 true Synchros were built with various packages. I know of an original in SF with camper etc too. They go for $30k sometimes, can be expensive. I might get a normal one and do a Subie swap. I work in show bizzz and I sometimes have to stay all night working with only a couple hour break, would be nice to have a mobile hotel room. Microwave, fridge, Subie powwaahhhh.
